| What a glorious day!I have been a dedicated Dr. Pepper drinker for many, many years. My father, who as a result of his manual labor, 24/7 job is able to consume whatever junk he wants, always has a supply of pop in the garage, with a special section dedicated to me and my Dr. Pepper. In college it was available during every meal, though I generally tried to resist it as my breakfast beverage (the few times I made it to breakfast). My diet was often supplemented with late-night trips to the local Handy Andy for studying and 32 styrofoam-encased ounces of my beloved beverage. For years, I have searched for a Dr. Pepper tshirt, and recently acquired a vintage-look red shirt of my very own. (I still covet Valerie's "I'm a Pepper" shirt, though.) One of my greatest disappointments when I am dining out is to discover that the restaurant does not carry this sweet nectar.
However, while browsing the web today, I discovered that my Dr. Pepper affinity thus far has been measured... and found greatly wanting. I was looking at the Relevant Magazine website, when a blog entry titled "8 Reasons Why Soda Is Awesome" caught my eye. Though I generally refer to said beverage as "pop," I'm still a fan, and so I decided to check it out. While scanning through the comments, one mentioning Dr. Pepper caught my eye, and I discovered that THERE IS A DR. PEPPER MUSEUM IN WACO, TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, this discovery has rocked my world.
Naturally, such a discovery immediately prompted a Google search, where I was led straight to the Dr. Pepper Museum website... and laughed I out loud! In the middle of Panera!!! These are the taglines that greeted me:
PARIS has the Louvre... | BELCHING we are a NEW YORK has the Guggenheim... | is not MUSEUM WACO has the Dr. Pepper!!! | ENCOURAGED... after all.
Included on the website are such glorious things as a gift shop, a blog, a podcast, miscellaneous Dr. Pepper - related facts, and tours, among other things. Part of the museum is dedicated to the Free Enterprise Institute. I also discovered that the museum is not actually owned by the Dr. Pepper company, which means that my journey - to discover all the glorious wonders that the internet and a love of Dr. Pepper can produce - has just begun.

The Dr. Pepper Company
The Dr. Pepper Collector's Club

The Dr. Pepper Bottling Company of Dublin, TX
A survey of all the various and sundry Dr. Pepper knockoffs, including a nice rundown of all the varieties of Dr. Pepper available Wouldn't You Like to be a Pepper Too?Miscellaneous blogs and fan sites: http://sweet-revenge.org/drpepper/http://www.wiw.org/~chris/drpepper/Well... it is almost time for church, so I must leave you now. Enjoy the Dr. Pepper glory...
Note: Officially, Dr Pepper is NOT spelled with a period after the Dr. However, I didn't discover this important fact until after I had typed this whole blog entry, so if it bugs you, just grab your white-out. Enjoy!

| Another busy weekend for Elizabeth and I! I don't know what's gotten into me... I was so exhausted this morning that I missed an important meeting because I wouldn't get out of bed.
On Friday, we headed down to the Andy Warhol Museum on Pittsburgh's north side. Warhol was from Pittsburgh, and so of course his museum is here, along with a bridge named after him. I like the 'tame' stuff that he did, i.e. all the artwork Warhol became famous for (flowers, cows, soup cans, famous people). But some of the other, more obscure things that he did, especially his films, were not exactly my taste. He was a very strange man, that Andy Warhol... It did spark a good conversation with my roommate, though!
After visiting the museum, we wandered around downtown trying to find some place to eat, and we ended up here:

Shhhh!!! Don't tell anyone! As a non-Steelers fan, I should not have allowed my presence to grace the doorstep of this restaurant... But by the time we reached it I was so ready for a drink that we went in anyway. (For you non-football fans out there, Jerome Bettis is a retired Steelers player.) At any rate, the food was good! Naturally, the drink menu was extensive (that's how restaurants make their money), and all of the cocktails and margaritas were named after football terms or Pittsburgh monuments. As befitting the day's activities, I ordered a drink called The Warhol to go with my burger. Our waiter was ridiculously over-attentive, but I suppose that's what you have to do to get a good tip these days! The best part of the whole experience, though, came when he brought our check. That little green-colored cocktail cost more than my meal! I suppose that's why they don't put drink prices on the menu... Oh well! I'll consider that a lesson learned. | | |
| An Inadvertent Week of "Firsts"Quite by accident, this past week/weekend has been full of first-time experiences for me. Most ridiculous to me right now is the fact that I am wearing jeans and long sleeves, and the calendar on my wall says that it is the end of July. Last night I was sitting out on the balcony reading, and I had to go get a blanket to keep myself warm.
Which brings me to the next "first"...
I've always had a mild interest in the Harry Potter phenomenon, but until last fall I had never actually taken the time to read any of the six books or watch any of the movies. In a fit of sheer madness, I read all of the books in roughly a three-week period, and saw all four of the movies in one weekend, a few months later. And so, having decided to succumb to the madness full-scale, I pre-ordered HP #7, and went down to Borders on Friday evening to await its arrival. What madness! That is all I shall say for now.
Then to celebrate a beautiful Saturday afternoon, my roommate kidnapped me and took me to a driving range for my first encounter with the sport of golf. Supposedly I was really quite good at it, for it being my first time ever holding a golf club, although I chalk that one up to my general average-level ability at most sports I've tried.
And lastly, sadly, I was forced (by an expired license plate) to take the plunge into all-encompassing Pennsylvania-citizen status. My drivers license, car title, license plate, insurance, and registration all now mark me as a PA resident. My greatest disappointment is that the license plates are so ugly!! As a protest, I've taken the old Indiana one and hung it on the wall in my office.
And now, I suppose I should actually do some work!

| Currently it is pouring rain in Pittsburgh. Like flash-flood pouring. This is typical for Pittsburgh.
Today at approximately 4pm when my roommate gets home from work, I will be hopping in my car for a quick weekend trip to INDIANA!!! It is rumored that I shall see many fine folks while I'm there. Plus I get to introduce the current roommate to at least three roommates of the past. That's fun!!
Then, next weekend, I will be swinging up to Wheaton, IL with a quick stop in good old INDIANA to attend my friend Carrie's wedding. I have decided to label 2007 "The Year of Weddings." The current count is four (July, October, November, December). If any of you people are planning on getting married any time soon, I'd say this is the year to do it, so get moving!
A few days ago I decided that I'm tired of not having constant access to the internet. Call me a wuss, or a technological wimp, or whatever, but I want the internet! So hopefully sometime soon, I will be calling comcast, shelling out more money, and wasting time on the internet allllll day long.
Peace out.
